How to Give Your Home a Deep Spring Clean

Spring Clean

It’s hard to believe but 2017 is already knocking on the door of spring. We’re over the moon about that at LMB however it does mean that for many of us it’s time for the spring clean. Over winter many of us take our foot off the gas when it comes to keeping our homes presentable. As the weather improves it’s time to declutter and brighten things. All in time to re-open our homes to our friends and families for those bright evening gatherings and summer barbeques as 2017 rolls on full steam ahead.

Getting Started

The first thing you need to do is have a clear picture of how to organise your things, make sure that you declutter surfaces and floor space. You must be quite ruthless with yourselves in this regard; it’s time for all those things sitting on worktops and in corners that serve no purpose to go. Now you’re ready to get all the right cleaning materials together, at the very least you’ll need some rags, a microfiber cloth, bucket, mop and hoover.

Spring Clean Method

It pays to have an idea of how you want to tackle your deep clean; the classic top to bottom, left to right is our preferred choice. Start upstairs and move from room to room cleaning left to right, always dust down surfaces and cupboards (with a damp microfiber cloth) before hoovering to avoid doing one job more than once.  If you don’t want to use lots of chemicals throughout your home there are plenty of natural equivalents, such as lemon juice, bicarbonate of soda solutions, and salt among others. Get the bulk of your decluttering out of the way then go back and target any stubborn marks or stains later on with the right tools for the job. Rather than scrub at limescale down your toilet simply pour some cheap cola down the loo and let it do its magic over the course of an hour. Stainless steel in kitchens can be one of the most stubborn surfaces to clean. An easy trick to clean it up nicely is to use a small bit of olive oil, this works brilliantly with water marks and finger prints.  If you’re planning to clean your oven as part of your deep clean refer back to our step by step guide.

The Finishing Touches

Once you’ve gone through your home and decluttered and cleaned there may still be a few niggling issues that you’d like to address. One of the main annoyances after a deep clean is not having space for things like clothing. If your wardrobe is bursting at the seams you need to be pragmatic and sort through your things, setting items you don’t wear aside. When you have a pile of unwanted clothes take them to your local clothing bank and give them a new lease of life.

LMB will gladly receive your unwanted textiles and turn them to a new purpose. We may send them to less privileged parts of the world to be enjoyed by those less fortunate than us. For items that are truly at the end of their wearable life we will turn them into recycled rags. You can buy these products on this website which are great for tasks like your spring clean, and many other cleaning tasks domestic of commercial.
