Sleek, shiny and sophisticated, no doubt your iPad is the apple of your eye. With so many options literally at the touch of a finger, the possibilities of this versatile tablet are practically infinite. As such, your iPad probably gets a great deal of use.

With this in mind, dirt and grime can easily build up, no matter how hard you try to keep your iPad screen clean. Now you’ve got an iPad screen that’s laden with oil, dirty fingerprints, smudges, grease and dust and you’ve come in search of information on how to clean an iPad screen.

Whilst the process is simple, you will need to take care when cleaning your iPad screen. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Supplies you will need

Despite the technological power encased within an iPad, the product itself is very fragile indeed. This means you will need the correct supplies to prevent damage to your device, which are as follows:

  • A soft, fluffy microfiber cloth. Unlike other cloths, microfiber cloths are made from either 100% polyester or a blend of polyester and nylon. This means they collect and retain dust and dirt without leaving lint behind, making them ideal for cleaning.
  • Distilled water. Generally, microfiber cloths will easily remove dirt and grime from your iPad screen but you may find you have some particularly tough marks to remove. In this case, you may need to lightly moisten your microfiber cloth. Tap water is mineral rich which can cause streaks on your screen so distilled water is ideal.

The cleaning process

Now you are armed with the correct supplies, it’s time to start cleaning your iPad screen. Follow these steps for a seamless finish every time:

  • First things first, remove any power cables and switch off your iPad. You can press the ‘Sleep’ button however it is preferable to switch it off completely.
  • Check your screen and remove any visible debris or large particles. If you fail to do this, you may inadvertently scratch the screen.
  • Using your microfiber cloth, rub the screen in small, circular motions.
  • Should there be a tough mark, dampen your microfiber cloth slightly with distilled water and repeat the above process. Be extremely careful when cleaning around the edges of the screen, as moisture could leak into the unit itself.
  • Check the screen from different angles to check you have removed all areas of dirt, grime or grease.
  • Repeat as necessary until your screen is spick and span.

Things to avoid

  • Avoid using cotton cloths or even paper kitchen towels in place of a microfiber cloth. The latter options will leave lint all over your device and can result in scratches on your screen. Microfiber cloths are best for this reason.
  • Don’t use any household cleaning sprays, aerosol sprays, abrasives or alcohol as they can severely damage the finish and display on your screen.

Follow this advice on how to clean an iPad screen and your tablet will soon look as good as new!
