Ball point pens are prone to leakage and it’s certainly easily to stain or mark carpet accidentally with a leaking pen. The key to ink removal is plenty of blotting – blot, don’t rub. This process will avoid spreading the ink spot and staining more of the carpet.
Before you start tackling the ink stain, be sure to use a paper towel or other absorbent cloth to soak up the majority of the ink – dab gently to prevent the ink soaking into the fibres or spreading further. The worst thing you could do in this situation is to rub or scrub the stain – you’ll only make it spread and harder to remove.
There are several tried and tested techniques you could use. Whichever method you use be sure to be gentle and apply a dabbing technique to avoid making the stain harder to remove. Choose from the following recommended chemicals or fluids and carefully apply each in turn or whichever one you have at hand:
- Rubbing alcohol
- Warm soapy water
- Baking soda
Apply with copious amounts of water and dry thoroughly for the best results.
